We’d hate to see you go, but if you’ve made up your mind, here’s how you can transfer your domain name to another registrar.

The domain transfer process is initiated at the gaining registrars end. When you initiate the domain transfer, they will need to ensure 3 things. Follow the instructions below:

Step 1 - Ensure there is No Lock: Before transferring your domain name, please ensure there is no lock placed on your domain name. The lock will be placed on your domain name under 2 circumstances:

  • If your domain name was registered or transferred within the last 60 days you will have to wait for the 60-day duration to complete to be compliant with ICANN policies.

  • If you have enabled Theft Protection on your domain name – In this case you may simply disable Theft Protection from your account. Here’s how

  1. Login to your account

  2. Here, you will need to click on your domain name you want to transfer

  3. In the Domain Registration section, click on "Theft Protection"

  4. Select Disable

  5. Click on the button Update Theft Protection Status

You have now removed the lock over your domain name.

Step 2 - Verify the Admin Email: Make sure that the Admin Email listed in your whois is your email address (you have access to it).

  • If the listed email is ‘[email protected]’, it means Privacy Protection is enabled for your domain and you need to disable it. Here’s how you do it:

  1. Login to your account

  2. Here, you will need to click on your domain name you want to transfer

  3. In the Domain Registration section, click on "Privacy Protection"

  4. Select Disable

  5. Click on the button Update Privacy Protection Status

  • If you see an email address that does not belong to you, change it to an email address to which you have access. This is because you need to authorize the domain transfer using your domain’s Admin Email contact. To change:

  1. Login to your account

  2. Here, you will need to click on your domain name

  3. In the Domain Registration section, click on "Contact Details"

  4. Modify the details and click the Save Contact Details button to save the changes

  5. Change the Administrative Contact Details

  6. Click the Save Contact Details button

Step 3 - Check the Authorization Code

  1. Login to your account

  2. Here, you will need to click on your domain name

  3. In the Domain Registration section, click on "Domain Secret" and you will see the authorization code displayed on the pop-up window

Your domain name is ready for transfer now. Contact your new registrar and give the Authorization Code of your domain name so that they can help you move on with the transfer at their end :(
